Barium Swallow: the thoracic esophagus

Preliminary Information

  • Use "bubbly barium" (medium density, cold, carbonated) for the upright phase and "thin barium" (dilute, low density) for the horizontal phase of the study.

  • Radiographic techniques: Use 12" image intensifier (II) field of view (FOV) with sided to side collimation.
