Normal thyroid
Activity within the thyroid gland is typically uniformly minimal or low level throughout both lobes. Significantly increased activity throughout both glands should raise the question of Grave's disease or thyroiditis. Nodular thyroid disease can result in heterogeneously increased activity throughout the gland. Any clearly focal area of intense activity within the thyroid should be considered suspicious for malignancy and further clinical evaluation including other appropriate imaging should be recommended.
